Your yard has recently received new sod. You need to be current with all the latest information on sod care.
Sodding is a great way to save time and ensure a green lawn. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to do a lot of work when caring for new sod.
Your fresh grass carpet could become fragile if you don’t care for it.
These are some tips that will help you care for your new seedling.
Water your lawn regularly to encourage grass growth. To root in the soil, fresh sod needs plenty of water.
For the first few days, water the soil three times daily to keep it moist. For the next few weeks, water it once per day. Reduce the amount of water that you give your lawn to keep it healthy. After 2 to 3 weeks, your lawn will need watering 2-3 times per semaine.
Avoid Fertilizing Sod
To grow, sod needs nutrients. You should not fertilize your sod for longer than one month after it has been installed.
Apply a layer of fertilizer to the soil for at least 4-5 weeks after sod installation. Organic fertilizers are more effective than chemical products.
Sod’s health is important.
Your lawn may look healthy after you have put in new sod. At this point, it’s still vulnerable. It can be affected by diseases, pests, and fungi.
Your lawn should be monitored for potential disease and damage. If you notice any signs of disease, contact a sodding company immediately.
Don’t step on sod
Few people realize that fresh soil can be fragile and easily broken. They just walk on it, not thinking. Sod doesn’t last long.
After installation, sod will not be able to withstand high foot traffic for many weeks. It can be dangerous to walk on. Traffic should be kept to a minimum, until the soil roots are established.
Deter Pests and Wild Animals
Wild animals such as raccoons, pests, and other wild animals are attracted to fresh sod. It is possible to destroy your lawn before you know it.
Organic pesticides are a good option to manage pests and insects in your lawn. You can also use temporary nets to keep small animals from your lawn.
Don’t mow your lawn
Mowing your lawn will improve its appearance and health. It doesn’t matter how often you mow your lawn, as it won’t take too long or you might damage the roots.
Before you mow, get rid of any weeds. Next, trim 1/2 inch of fresh grass.
