Best SOD Grass For Sale Alabama Florida 2

Fresh turf grass or sod can transform your yard.

It is cheaper, but the traditional method of starting from grass seed is more costly and takes longer to grow. The results may not always be predictable.

Sod lawns can be lush and lush in weeks, instead of months. Sod lawns are more resistant to diseases and pests than other varieties.

Proper installation is key to successful sod installation.

The steps are not difficult but can be tedious and time-consuming. Ask for help and take your time. These steps will help you to install a sod garden that will improve your outdoor living space as well as increase curb appeal.

Soil Preparation

A beautiful lawn requires proper preparation. Sod should first be prepared using aerated soil or compost.

The soil should be slightly acidic but rich in nutrients. These are the steps to follow to prepare your soil.

  • A rototiller is a tool that can loosen about 6 inches of dirt.
  • Top-quality compost should be spread on the dirt. The compost should be 2 inches deep.
  • You can add a layer of 2-3 inches of sand. The purpose of the sand is to improve drainage.
  • Anyone laying sod should have their soil tested. Although you can make your soil kits yourself, it’s more costly to have it professionally tested.
  • After you have finished the soil test, add fertilizer to your soil. Some soils may require lime, depending on the soil test results.

Leveling the Ground

When laying sod, it is common to make a mistake by not leveling the ground. This can cause the lawn to look uneven or bumpy. Sometimes, it can cause lawn seams to become visible and create a patchwork quilt effect.

To move the soil, use a rake or other similar tool. This will fill in any holes and lower the high points. To prepare for laying sod, water the soil only once it is level.

Laying the Sod

Anyone who has laid tiles before knows that how you start can make a huge difference in the end result. Laying sod is no exception.

  • Locate the longest straight spot within your yard. This is where you will lay your first roll.
  • For the first roll, use the entire length of the sod.
  • Once it is lowered, gently pat it down to remove any air pockets.
  • Do not step on newly laid sod. Use a rake if you do.
  • For the final row, you will need to cut each row in half.
  • You should place the sod in a more difficult position. A brick wall is a good example of how it will look.
  • Seams should be firmly bonded together, but not overlapping.
  • Cut the sod when placing around trees and flower beds.

Post Installation Care

After the lawn is installed, it is essential to take good care of the lawn, especially in the first few weeks.

Watering

  • After installation, water your lawn right away.
  • You must not allow pets or foot traffic for at least one week.
  • Water every day for the first week. For the second week, water should be taken every other day. Water twice per week. NOTE: Morning is the best time to water your plants in southeast climates.

Mowing

  • After your lawn has reached at least 3 inches in height, you should not mow it. The lawn can be mowed down to 2 inches.
  • To ensure that the sod is established, use a lightweight, walk-behind mower. The sod can be damaged by a riding mower.

Fertilizing

  • It is a good idea to add another round after about a month.
  • Protect your investment by hiring a professional lawn-care company.

It can be overwhelming and physically difficult to install a new lawn. Professional lawn installers are recommended.

With proper planning, timing and preparation, you can easily create a beautiful and healthy lawn. You don’t have to wait for seeded lawns months to mature. Instead, you can relax and enjoy your new lawn within a matter of weeks.
